No rush in God’s Kingdom

Let’s start with an image: As I typed this blog I saw Jesus with another person picking flowers. They are just enjoying each other’s company. There’s no rush, no obligations. This is how He wants to live with you!

So, here we go:

All our four children were quite some months when they started walking. Our third son owns the record, he started walking with 20 months. He is now 8 years old and he plays football. When he takes the penalty, you don’t want to be the goalkeeper. He has a lot of strength in his legs. When he was a toddler, he was already quite big, yet walking he didn’t think necessary for a long time. I carried him so much (in that time we lived abroad, so often we couldn’t use a stroller). But to force him to walk was obviously no option. When he was ready, when he thought it was helpful, when he dared, he took his first steps.

Now, it was not such a problem for me to carry my son, but it can be hard when we need to wait spiritually for things to unfold. We need to be careful that we don’t come up with our own ideas and try to influence the plan God has for us. Abraham knows about this.

Already for some years I was searching for the direction God has for my life. If you don’t see anything what that could be, waiting can be hard. Every time I asked God about it, His answer was that He really knows what He is doing, and that there would come a time that the path would unfold. That no-one can influence the plan He has for my life, as long as I keep walking side-by-side with Him. I also don’t have to go to every meeting or course on the prophetic. Even if the days go by just folding laundry, cleaning diapers, cooking… He has a good plan and I just need to be with Him. From there He will guide the way. Do you know how much peace that gives? Sometimes I still want to run ahead… ‘Lord, what will Garden of Glory look like in a few years?’ But by now, I know that is not the most important.

Last year we were visiting a church. My husband was preaching and during the service I had a prophetic word for a young lady. Afterwards a young man and I talked and he was so hungry for more of God. It was beautiful to see. But there was also frustration… He already had someone pray for him and he expected that he would feel the touch of the Holy Spirit. But little happened. If I maybe had an idea how he could bring his spiritual life to a higher level? So I said ‘Yes, by spending time with Jesus day-by-day’. It was as if I looked in the face of the disappointed rich young man.

There is no rush in the Kingdom of God and there are no short-cuts. We can push and pull, but I don’t expect God to change His plan, because we like to run. Isn’t it actually really great that we ‘just’ need to spend time with Jesus and that He then takes the responsibility for the plan for our lives? That we take steps because He personally revealed the next steps to us? Not because our soul cries we need to do – do – do; out of fear, haste, wanting to be first, wanting to be important… Come to rest, child, stop running and enjoy living side-by-side with Jesus.

Be still…

And ask Jesus if you are walking side by side with Him. Ask Jesus if you are running ahead of Him, or that there are areas where you do not walk in His plan because you don’t want to go with Jesus. Wait for His revelation.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah 30:15 [niv]

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 [niv]
